In 1536, doña Isabel married Hernando de Soto, a veteran of Francisco Pizarro’s conquest expedition to Peru. Three years later, doña Isabel accompanied Soto to Cuba, from where he launched his failed expedition to conquer and settle Florida.  \u003cbr\u003e \u003cbr\u003eIn her husband’s absence, Bobadilla served as Cuba’s governor between 1539-1543. Shortly after her husband’s death, doña Isabel initiated a lengthy legal dispute against her husband’s long-time business partner, Hernán Ponce de León.
